When you search for halal, kosher, vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free restaurants, what happens behind the scenes? Menu Score uses a combination of data sources and filters to surface the most relevant results for your dietary needs.

Primary dietary type

Your main filter is the dietary type you select: Halal, Kosher, Vegan, Vegetarian, or Gluten-Free. This determines which restaurants appear and how they're scored. Each dietary type has its own criteria and risk factors.

Sub-filters for vegan and vegetarian

For vegan and vegetarian searches, you can further filter by "Fully" or "Friendly." Fully means the restaurant is 100% plant-based. Friendly means it offers dedicated options but may also serve meat or dairy. This helps you avoid places that don't meet your standards.

Advanced filters (Premium)

Premium members get access to additional filters such as certification status, risk level, and more. These let you narrow results to only high-confidence establishments or explore new options with full transparency.

How results are ranked

By default, you can sort by distance, rating, or price. Confidence scores are shown for each restaurant. Higher scores indicate stronger evidence that the place matches your dietary type. You can use this to prioritize safer choices.

What we don't filter

We don't hide restaurants with lower scores—we show them with appropriate risk indicators. This transparency lets you make your own decisions. Some diners are comfortable with medium-risk options; others prefer only low-risk establishments.

Continuous improvement

Our filters and scores improve as more data comes in: new certifications, menu updates, and community feedback. The more people contribute, the better the results for everyone.
